All anime is good except for the ones that are about slice of life or action. They are all incredibly shallow. I don't see why people like them, really

I don't really care for action anime anymore, as I outgrew that shit back in the early 2000s. However, slice of life is really hit-or-miss. 
Fan service can be a pretty awesome addition to a show, but it must never be overdone. At least not if you're planning on getting immersed in the story of said anime. However, plenty of great shows can and do exist without it!

I have watched many anime over the years and have found that about 98% are really good or ok.

While Higurashi made me fear the dark corners of my room it also made me think which I like.

So true... That was one confusing-schmo show! But it was well worth it once you made it to the end and figured everything out. I just wish there were a lot more shows like that.

All anime is great, mainly for me though I do like slice of life and all that if it has a good enough story or characters, and I stopped watching higurashi at the nail ripping, but if it has been made I've most likely watched or seen clips from it.

Most of it. I like more then I dislike.
Coincidentally most of the stuff that gets popular over here I tend to dislike. Like Cowboy Beebop and Ghost in the Shell which I don't care for at all.

Not really. I very much a more new (last two years) anime fan. I tend not be able to stand anything from before about 2002, and even that can be pushing it. (Might be more 2004).
I've watched a lot of stuff from 2002-2004 on and I like the stuff that comes on today and don't have any nostalgia or love for stuff aired before that.
There are exceptions like Serial Experiments Lain, but for the most part, what old folks B***h is "ruining anime today" is exactly the stuff that makes it appeal to me.

I'd say I enjoy both more recent and older animes for different reasons. I mean, I enjoy ecchi and harem animes from time to time (any guy who says he doesn't is a liar), but sometimes I like to return to the times when substance was more important than visual appeal

Probably doesn't need to be said again, but believing all Japanese animation is "good" is the mindset of a foolish fanboy/girl.
Substance has always mattered more than visual appeal when it comes to quality entertainment. You CAN favor the opposite, but whatever is in that category is not often going be to classified as "quality" in the overall consensus.
Also, I'm not really a fan of cute/moe things. I have a tolerance for it, but I would rather go without having such insufferably adorable archetypal characters dominating my shows that never develop as things progress.
