Yes, but it takes up too much space and kind of defeats the purpose of the forum since it would become a giant chat box ^-^

If enough people want it though, I'll talk to the mods and see if they are OK with it too.

I don't think it defeats the purpose, because again we can interact in real time and we wouldn't be limited to one topic like with threads. It's just a thought that could increase activity. As far as space goes if you can't do it you can't do it and I wouldn't hold it against ya.

I can either put it at the top of the forum (where it moves everything down, makes it look ugly and is a huge distraction) or the bottom (where it's out of the way and only accessible to those who want to use it). So I'd put it at the bottom if I did make it.

So, instead of me creating a chat just for this forum right here... I should force you guys to have to find an IRC client and link off-site to an IRC server just to chat instead of scrolling down the page?

IRC stands for Internet Relay Chat. It's been around almost as long as the internet has it self. It was one of if not the first ways to use an active chat room on the internet (existing before even AOL). It is also responsible for what you know today as torrents, which are a form of Peer to Peer file transfers, first used threw IRC chat rooms.

I've seen a lot of forums with IRC's. I've never really see one with an active chat on the main page.

we could make an irc channel... but really it would just be another thing I have to monitor. I'd rather make a chat at the bottom. At least then I don't have to have so many open programs on my computer. But again, this depends on if the others think it's a good idea.

I belong to an MMA forum that used to have an active chat on its home page. It had a decent following at first then it died down, then was brought back during PPVs by popular demand only to go away to make room for a blog.

but I really don't think it should be a fancy chat I only foresee the regulars here using it

I've been on a forum in the past with a shoutbox. The conversations in there could be VERY fun sometimes and it can be pretty convenient to have a method of giving quick and urgent messages, so I wouldn't mind having one.

Problem is though is that it could attract a lot of drama too. So the only reason I'd give NOT to put one is if you're not confident enough to enforce any unacceptable behavior on a constant basis. That's the reason the same forum I mentioned also REMOVED their shoutbox permanently.

A trial period is also an option too to gauge how things turn out, but I'll accept whatever you consider the best decision Ms. Admin.

I think you nailed it dude one of those tiny little shout boxes you see on anime video sites would be a perfect way to talk in real time and prob wont take as much space

A shoutbox might be a great idea... but unless the forum itself is still bursting with constant activity, it'll just degrade into mostly a big substitute for posts, as is the case nowadays with another dying forum that I'm a member of (barely go there anymore as it is).

well as far as busting with activity goes it couldn't hurt to get out there and make a few posts. but I think it's worth a little trial and error. but this issue is kinda split down the middle

Some of the Mods are only on during the weekends and were busy during this one that past. I'm planning on asking them starting tomorrow.

For those who were asking for a chatbox, there is now one in the lower right of the webpage. Please feel free to try it out and remember that it is in a "trial" phase. Meaning that if there are problems or if it doesn't work, I may take it down. However, for now just enjoy it as much as you want.
