Halloween / Haunted Attractions Empty Halloween / Haunted Attractions

Post by Kuu Wed Aug 29, 2012 7:48 am

As we all know, October/Halloween isn't far, now. Personally, I love October more than any other month. I hope you all feel the same. The atmosphere of the unknown, scary, and just plain weird gets under my skin and makes me feel as happy as can be.

Haunted Attractions are one of the main factors of why I get this feeling. I love Haunted Houses, hayrides, mazes, ect.

As fate would have it, I'm going to be working in one this year. It's based in my small, country home town of Armada and has a VERY dedicated staff. My job is a very difficult one. I am to be the host/announcer of the hayride. I will be on the ride with the victims the entire time.

If anyone on the forum is near or in Michigan, I highly suggest you come check us out. It's an amazing attraction. I'm not just saying that because I work there. https://www.facebook.com/HauntedHollows
Location: 32 Mile Road 1 mile west of North Ave. Armada, Michigan

But this thread isn't about me. Since the owners asked me if I have any ideas for improvement this year, I'd love to get your opinion on what scares people the most. So, here's a poll.

If any of you wish, this thread can also be for any Halloween discussion in general.

I hate Surprise / Shock XD, I still cover my eyes when I sense that is going to happen in movies.

Ah Halloween. The only event that makes it generally acceptable among everybody to cosplay on the street.~

In terms of what I find scary, I have a childhood trauma towards sudden shock thanks to an internet screamer my parents pranked me with a long time ago. I couldn't even go near a computer for quite a while after it happened. I'm older now so it doesn't affect me as badly as it used to, but thanks to that traumatic experience I'm always very wary when doing activities that may feature one.

Despite that though, the suspense building up to the scare is probably the most important thing if you ask me. That constant foreboding paranoia that you're in a life threatening situation but have no idea when something may happen is what will instill a feeling of fear in someone. Sometimes just having a split-second glimpse of what is hunting you before it disappears back into the shadows can make that feeling even more intense.

So yes, try to set a suspenseful and dangerous atmosphere. If the "victims" feel relatively safe from whatever may happen then that feeling of fear won't take hold and it'll be much harder to scare them.

The haunted attractions and what not kind of got ruined for me. Back in 2007 I worked at this Haunted Forest. The people who worked there were just immature assholes who wouldn't stop messing with me. I told this one guy in particular right to his face that if he didn't stop I was going to beat his a**. The dude then told on me and I was fired on the spot. BLEH! Bad memories.

As for Halloween. I love it. I just love that time of the year. In October I might start a scary movie thread (if someone doesn't do it by the time I get around to it lol).

I love Halloween so much, but if I had to choose what would scare me most, it would the the shock/surprise and getting surrounded.

I don't usually go to haunted attractions, and instead, I usually host a Halloween party. Halloween is like my favorite holiday, so its a must in terms of celebration.

I completely get that. The only reason I don't go to many Halloween parties is because everyone in my town is either a redneck, an idiot, or one of my friends that would never go to a party xD

Heads up to anyone here in Michigan.

Haunted Hollows opens in about 2 or 3 weeks. We're just finishing up some of the building work. I'd love for anyone available to come~

Here's the site if you'd care to take a look.

    http://haunted-hollows.com/index2.php

This was some of the cast from last year.

I'll be joining the ranks this year as Eddie Staynir. Kleptomaniac ringleader extraordinaire.

They allow you to, for the most part, create your own character, so I had lots of fun with it~

Well, I believe my family wants to come out and see me in the act, so I'll probably ask one of them to do it. I'll be the most seen person on the ride, so it should be a bit lengthy. I'm one of the few characters that even speaks like a person, since I'm the host/narrator for the hayride.

For the past 3 years i've been going to Knotts Berry Farm's Halloween Haunt. It's seriously my favorite way to spend Halloween and oh maaaan is it awesome!
Last year, they had a new maze that if I remember correctly was called Delirium and the concept basically surrounded popular phobias. One room had a bunch of cockroaches in it (virtual ones crawling the walls, plastic ones here and there for decoration and effect). Some of the rooms really got to me, especially the one with more-than-I-can-handle gore. I remember one that was interesting, and that was one that had to do with the occult; blood, pentagrams, and some bloody pikes with limbs attached to them. Defiantly unique, yet it still tied with the theme of the maze.

So, with going astray from the poll, i'd have to say stuff that deals with psychological fears is what I find really horrifying. Or just plain paranoia is great too; sorta atmospheric. Like someone else said, building tension is really important too. That's the worst! >__<

But with the poll, blending actors/workers with props is also really scary. Especially when they jump out at you at the last second, right when you've convinced yourself that it's just an object. Horrible!

When I was 9 years old there was this old house they converted into a haunted house called "blood oaks".

There isn't much i remember from it but the mad scientist operating table that sprayed you with blood when the lights went out, a girl getting killed in a hay loft right in front of you, gore strung about all over the place and people in disfigured costumes jumping out at you. To top it all off they would lead you into the back yard and you would be chased off the grounds by masked people with chainsaws.
