For those otaku both old and new, this is the thread on ParodyOX Forums that is for you.
Here we will discuss a debate that has been going around in anime fandom culture. The debate of Old Anime VS New Anime. I wanted to make this thread as I found that it would make an interesting conversation for all to take part in. So, I want a good clean convo. No flame wars, no insults, no blows bellow the belt, and other such standard things. (Or see rules at the bottom of this post)
Now before I get into my thoughts on the debate, what makes a new anime new and an old anime old? Well by my standards, I believe it is all a matter of animation style (hand drawn or computer animated), it's quality in overall production and the time it was released. Hence why I made old 1999 and before and new 2000 and after. Mainly that's a rough guesstimate but it's one I believe that should suffice to work for "old" and "new". If anyone would like to add any additional thoughts or info, go for it right here.
Now to my thoughts:
When it comes to old and new series... I can't really choose a side in the debate. It really all depends on the show. I mean both generations of anime have shows I like and dislike. Old series like Fist of the North Star, Space Adventure Cobra, Dragonball Z, DNA2, Inuyasha, Betterman, Silent Mobius, Steam Detectives and many others still are enjoyable to watch even till this day. And new animes like Chrono Crusade, Madoka Magica, High School DXD, Haiyorei Nyaruko-San, Acchi Kochii, Accel World, Full Metal Alchemist / Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood and other newer titles are always fun and bringing new things to the table. Both areas have their good and bad titles and both have their own pros and cons. In terms of production however, I have to give it to the edge to the newer anime. Mainly because of how well put together the overall animation and sound and production is. But in the defense of the older series, much of the older animes do have a certain charm to them due to the fact that the animation and characters are actually hand drawn and put into work through hand. Which is pretty awesome to see. It's kinda like comparing Beauty and the Beast to something like Tangled. So again in terms of technical aspects, both are well matched themselves in my view.
Now it's up to you forum goers, debate away on your views of The Old VS The New. Talk about favorite titles from each side, what you think, etc. And most importantly: Have fun!
